The first automobile hill climb competition up Palomar Mountain's Nate Harrison Grade from the gate off Pauma Road to Baileys was in 1912, with a time of 35 minutes. Successive hill climb runs through 1923 lowered that time to 28 minutes and 39 seconds. After 1924, there are no further newspaper reports on hill climb runs up Nate Harrison Grade.
